The modernization of the Bacau County Ambulatory involved the rehabilitation of the façades, interior modernisation and the conversion of the two patios in public covered spaces. The challenge to create a new design for the façade of the Ambulatory was big enough, considering that it was built in the late ’60s. Back then, this kind of buildings were constructed based on a standard project that was adapted to different construction sites particularities. The building had an industrial look, all exterior enclosures being part of the structural concrete frame. Given this, the intervention could only be minimal so we decided to use wavy colorful stripes of polycarbonate attached to a metallic wireframe and locally bond cladding with 10 cm thick thermo system. Inside the two courtyards we suggested new interior areas for various activities easily accessible for both patients and hospital visitors. The two patios are ment to become social spaces for non-medical public services with perimetral pots, benches and restrooms.
